Remembering the summers of my childhood, road trips were what we did. We spend hours and hours in the car, visiting relatives close by and afar. The first couple of cars my dad owned, did not have AC. Yes, it was hot and sticky. Yet, I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything.
One of the best ideas for road trip with kiddies is visiting the state capitol. It's living history and basic introduction to American government all rolled up in one. Surely, us parents will also learn something new.
In California, we have the California State Capitol Museum. Great tours are offered daily for free. It's fun to be walking in the capitol building amidst our government representatives and their staff (as they work and run the state).
