Self-Care Today

Following up on yesterday's post on self care.  Here is a nice little reminder of what we can do to keep us healthy inside and out...

Self Care Tips for Mothers
(based on an article by Amy Tiemann, Ph.D.)
  • Fill Your Own Cup - tend to your basic needs and avoid burnout; sleep, eat well and stay health
  • Give Yourself Time to Adjust – parenting is a process
  •  Reclaim Your Mind Space – invest in yourself, creatively, intellectually, refocus personal priorities
  •  Allow Interest to Surface – reclaim old hobbies or try out new ones
  •  Express Your Creativity  - in new and inventive ways
  •  Take Small Spiritual Retreat – regardless of religious affiliations, slowing down, find the time and space for contemplation individually or in spiritual community
  •  Use Family Teamwork – share household responsibilities with your partner or even involve the kids
  •  Build Your Support Network – with family and friends; it’s important to know that there people you can count on when in need
  •  Keep Investing in Yourself - take a life long view of personal and professional development; look for educational or professional opportunities
  • Stay Open to the World -  Motherhood gives us an understanding of the world’s deep hunger and the capability to fill those needs through our skills, empathy, and leadership.  Where are our gifts and leadership needed?
