June 8, 2011 is World Ocean Day
Our kids are pretty much water babies. Our son was in baby swim class and hasn't stop since. Our daughter started later, but she basically taught herself to swim by following the older brother.
We have always talked about our responsibilities to the environment, including the ocean.
Their love for the water, and their interest in ocean animals have help keep our conversation going about what we need to do to keep the ocean clean and the animals safe. They ask a lot of questions which we have very little answers to, some are technical questions in the science of oceanography, others are moral questions of human responsibility.
What we decided we can do is to keep talking and be aware.
So wear blue and talk about the ocean today.
Keep the conversation going, that in itself will further the cause.
